On 2/26/25, the Bedford Police Department received a report of a credit card skimming device that was recovered from the Bedford Wal-Mart located at 1126 East Lynchburg Salem Turnpike. The device was located by Wal-Mart Asset Protection personnel, who were proactively checking point of sale terminals (credit card kiosks) for skimming devices. Asset Protection with Wal-Mart notified the Bedford Police Department, and an investigation began.
As the investigation progressed it was discovered that a male suspect matching the description of the suspect in the Bedford incident had placed skimming devices at several other Wal-Mart stores throughout Virginia, as well as other states on the east coast. Several law enforcement agencies collaborated together, to share a variety of intelligence that was gathered from each separate event.
With the assistance of Wal-Mart Global Investigations, other law enforcement entities, and the United States Secret Service; the Bedford Police Department was able to locate the suspect in the Richmond, Virginia area. The suspect was subsequently taken into custody by law enforcement without incident.
The suspect in this matter has been identified as Florin Doroiman, a citizen of Romania. Charges are currently pending in the Town of Bedford.
The Bedford Police Department would like to make the public aware that the time frame for possible compromised cardholders at the Wal-Mart location in the Town of Bedford is 2/25/25 5:30pm – 2/26/25 9:00am. The skimming device was located a register 11, which is the register where tobacco products can be purchased. If you believe that you visited register 11 during this time frame at this specific store and utilized a form of payment other than cash, you are encouraged to contact Det. Lawhorne at 540-587-6116.
This is an ongoing investigation, and no further information will be released at this time.
