Bedford Police Department Arrests Individual on Multiple Child Sex Crime Charges
BEDFORD, VA – On February 5, 2025, the Bedford Police Department, in partnership with the Bedford
County Sheriff’s Office, arrested Derek David Browning in connection with multiple child sex crimes.
This arrest follows a thorough investigation conducted by both agencies, in consultation with the Bedford
County Commonwealth Attorney’s Office.
Browning has been charged with the following offenses:
 Two counts of 18.2-67.1 – Forcible Sodomy
 One count of 18.2-370 – Indecent Liberties with a Minor
 One count of 18.2-370.6 – Penetration of Mouth of a Minor
 Two counts of 18.2-67.3 – Aggravated Sexual Battery
Browning was transported to the Blue Ridge Regional Jail without incident, where he is currently being
held without bond.
At this time, no further information will be released regarding the case. The Bedford Police Department
and the Bedford County Sheriff’s Office are committed to protecting the community and ensuring justice
for all individuals involved.
