Officers were patrolling the area of South Street and Washington Street when they observed a subject
known to them from previous encounters. Officers were aware the subject had an active warrant. After
confirming the subject's wanted status with dispatch, Demonte Bryant, 28, of Bedford, was transported
to the Blue Ridge Regional Jail. Bryant was released on an unsecured bond. (Incident #PD25-00096)

February 1st, 2025 – 11:50 PM
Officers observed suspicious driving behavior, which resulted in a traffic stop. Austin Gallier, 24, of
Appomattox, was subsequently taken into custody and transported to the Blue Ridge Regional Jail,
where a warrant for Driving Under the Influence was obtained against him. (Incident #PD25-00101)

February 2nd, 2025 – 2:32 PM
Officers initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle after observing it follow another vehicle too closely in an
unsafe manner. As officers approached the vehicle, they recognized a subject who was known to be
wanted. Dispatch confirmed the warrant, and Damien Roberts, 35, of Big Island, was placed under
arrest. He was transported to the Blue Ridge Regional Jail and held on a secured bond. (Incident #PD25-

February 3rd, 2025 – 7:23 AM
Officers responded to Longwood Avenue for a report of a hit-and-run. The victim advised they were
sitting in their car when a vehicle backed into them, pushing the victim’s vehicle forward. The Patrol

Possible Narcotics

February 4th, 2025 – 11:50 AM
Officers were patrolling Forest Road when they observed a vehicle with an expired inspection sticker. A
traffic stop was conducted, and suspected narcotics were found. The Patrol Division is investigating.

February 7th, 2025 – 11:21 AM
Officers were patrolling Route 460 Eastbound when they observed a vehicle failing to maintain its lane.
A traffic stop was initiated, and the driver advised their license was suspended. Dispatch confirmed that
the driver, Sedgewick McAlaster, 24, of Bedford, was also wanted on a capias. McAlaster was
transported to the Blue Ridge Regional Jail, where he was served the capias and issued a summons for
driving with a suspended license. He was held without bond. (Incident #PD25-00117)

February 9th, 2025 – 3:10 PM
Officers were in the 1200 block of East Main Street when they observed a vehicle with an expired
inspection sticker. Officers ran the vehicle tag through dispatch and confirmed its status as inactive by
the DMV. A summons for forged tags and a forged inspection sticker was issued to the driver. The
vehicle was towed, and upon inventorying the vehicle, suspected narcotics were located. The Patrol

Officers responded to Berglund of Bedford for a report of an employee committing larceny. David Lentz,
30, of Brookneal, was later arrested and taken to the magistrate, where a warrant for grand larceny was
obtained. Lentz was released on an unsecured bond. (Incident #PD25-00134)

February 13th, 2025 – 6:30 PM
Officers responded to Old Liberty Station restaurant for a report of a larceny. Upon arrival, officers met
with the victim, who advised that a Stihl pole saw had been taken from the back of their truck. The

Officers spoke with an individual at the police department who reported a fraud. The victim advised
multiple purchases were made to their business that they believe were fraudulent. The Detective
Bureau is investigating. (Incident #PD25-00146)

February 18th, 2025 – 9:59 AM
Officers responded to the 1000 block of Bills Road for a report of two dogs at large. Officers knew one of
the dog's owners had an active capias. Dispatch confirmed the capias, and Brandi Coffey, 51, of
Bedford, was later taken to the Blue Ridge Regional Jail, where she was served and held without bond.

Officers responded to Atlantic Union Bank on West Main Street for the report of two counterfeit checks.
After a brief investigation, Michael Royalty, 27 of Florida and Jack Johnson, 37, of Danville were
transported to the magistrate’s office where officers obtained charges for uttering on both individuals.

Officers responded to 514 Blue Ridge Avenue in reference to a disturbance. Robert Ashwell Jr., 43, of
Jetersville, was later placed under arrest for public intoxication. He was transported to the magistrate’s
office, where a warrant was issued against him. (Incident #PD25-00155)
Fraud

February 21st, 2025 – 9:39 AM
Officers spoke with an individual by phone who reported being the victim of a fraud. The victim advised
they were contacted by someone claiming to be from the cable company, who convinced the victim to
provide their bank account information, claiming they were behind on payments. The victim later
noticed an unauthorized charge on their account. The victim reported the incident to their bank and was
advised to file a report with the police department. (Incident #PD25-00160)

Officers responded to Goodwill for a report of a larceny. Officers were advised that a subject took an

February 23rd, 2025 – 2:27 AM
Officers were patrolling the area of Dr. Martin Luther King Bypass when they observed a vehicle
committing multiple violations. A traffic stop was conducted, and Jose Barahona Gonzalez, 27, of
Roanoke, was arrested for driving under the influence. Dispatch also advised that Gonzalez was wanted
out of Roanoke for a capias. He was transported to the Blue Ridge Regional Jail and set to be held until
sober for a bond hearing. (Incident #PD25-00167)

Officers responded to Lowe’s for a report of a subject who had shoplifted from the store on three

February 24th, 2025 – 4:42 PM
Officers responded to the 1100 block of East Main Street for a report of a hit-and-run crash. Upon
arrival, officers made contact with the victim, who advised they were traveling on East Main Street and
collided with another vehicle’s mirror. The driver of the other vehicle failed to stop. The Patrol Division is

Fraud

February 24th, 2025 – 10:18 AM
Officers spoke with an individual by phone who reported being the victim of a scam. The victim advised
that they received a text to verify a purchase. The victim spoke with someone on the phone to cancel
the transaction, but while on the phone, they provided their card information. Later, the victim noticed
all of their funds were withdrawn from their account. The phone number the victim had spoken to was
no longer in service. (Incident #PD25-00178)
DUI Arrest
E Main St / Independence Blvd
February 26th, 2025 – 10:18 PM
Officers were patrolling the intersection of Longwood Avenue and Forest Road when they observed a
vehicle make a wide turn and almost collide with an officer’s vehicle. Officers followed the vehicle and
initiated a traffic stop. Rudy Mejia Sanchez, 39, of Bedford, was arrested for driving under the influence.
He was taken before the magistrate, where a warrant for driving while intoxicated was obtained. He was
set to have a bond hearing when sober. (Incident #PD25-00180)
Destruction of Property
W Depot St
February 26th, 2025 – 8:00 AM
Officers responded to the parking lot at West Depot Street for a report of property damage. The caller
advised their vehicle had been keyed. The Patrol Division is investigating. (Incident #PD25-00185)
